ASP.NET and Web Standards

Since I put this site up, I’ve wanted to make it look pretty: a tough task with my geek’s sense of style. I’ve also decided that my design would have to use CSS for the design. Click here for the reason. And I don’t make things any easier by insisting on ASP.NET, being a .NET nerd and all. To top it all off, I’m also easily distracted by video games, so I’m still in research mode.

Anyway the reason of this post is to point to a great summary of ASP.NET and web standards at Web Standard Project BUZZ. Don’t know about you, but Microsoft’s mantra, “we fixed it in whidbey,” doesn’t really make me feel better.

Superfriends Quiz!

I love quizzes like this. And this one is especially good, because look who recommended it.

TV's Superman!
Congratulations! You are TV’s Superman, faster than
a speeding bullet, more powerful than a
locomotive, able to do pretty much anything at
all except deal with a little kryptonite! It’s
amazing how many ways there are of working
kryptonite into the script, though. You’re
smug, but what the hell, you’re pretty much
all-powerful. On the other hand, it’s not like
you worked for those powers. You just happened
to land on a planet with a different color sun,
so all of a sudden you think you’re better than
me. You know what? Screw you!

Shaun of the Dead

Just got back from seeing Shaun of the Dead. A very funny, smart movie. I highly recommend it. I spent some of my youth in England, so I’m usually pretty good about getting through the accent (someone I know had to put subtitles on Sexy Beast), but there were times when I just did not get what they said.

But recommended nevertheless.

Microsoft Campus Tour

The always entertaining and educational Anthony Vranic came by the UVic campus to give a talk on Managed DirectX. I was able to sneak away from work to watch, even though I’m not a student (shhhh, don’t tell). I had looked at Managed DirectX before, but just found confusing. Anthony put it in the context that I needed; so now I might go back to take another look at it.

Right now, though, I’m just going to play Doom3 for several hours.
